Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group LLC, and General Motors Co. have won big in a recently completed quality survey by either winning outright or tying for first in a full dozen of the 21 categories addressed by the survey.

Talking about the strong performances of the Detroit Big Three, Alexander Edwards, president of San Diego-based Strategic Vision, the survey conductor, said, “There’s no questioning domestic carmakers want to lead. It’s now forcing all manufacturers to build the most superior, innovative and holistically quality vehicles possible to gain the hearts and minds of customer.”

Edwards added that this was the strongest showing of the main American automakers in more than 20 years. The strongest performing domestic models were Ford’s Fusion sedan, F-250 and F-350; Chrysler’s Durango SUV, Dodge Dart, and 200 convertible sedan; and General Motors’ Chevrolet Volt, Traverse, Yukon, Corvette, Avalanche, and Buick Enclave.

The top performers in the survey of data provided by more than 17,000 buyers of 2013 model year vehicles were Toyota Motor Cop.’s Lexus and Volkswagen AG’s Audi.
