In a desperate attempt to look serious about reducing the federal deficit, President Obama has stated that he would consider allowing federal debts to be collected using text messages. According to administration numbers the use of text messages should facilitate the collection of an additional $500 million in taxes, student loans, etc.
Really? A message on your cellphone will make you write a check when communication via regular mail didn’t? OMG U O $500 will make you send the cash now? Despite the figures claimed of the less than intelligent in office, the base issue is whether cell phones should be a means of debt collection for auto lenders and tote the note car lots.
It is bad enough that you cannot pay a debt. Most people feel very upset about that alone, then there are the harassing phone calls at all hours on your landline.
Yes, more people are dropping landlines. So, now it should be okay to never be able to have any peace from debt collectors? If this is allowed, how soon before it becomes legal to camp out on your lawn in order to collect a debt?
